​Configurable Grid Automation Apps

  • Capacitor Bank Controller - Utilizes data for available capacitor banks and uses volts, var and current to automate operation of station caps to maintain unity Power Factor.
  • Automatic Sectionalizer - Application monitors the number of fault events within a specified time frame and if exceeded operates a control point. Used to facilitate sectionalizing operations.
  • Timing – Application allows for easy configuration of a timer that measures the time between to indications and generates alarms. Used to facilitate breaker maintenance scheduling. Breaker open and breaker open achieved contacts from a relay can be mapped to start and stop timer. If a user configured timer value is exceeded, breaker “slow” operation is alarmed.
  • Alarm Monitor - This application can operate DO points based on a point's current state or alarm status (In Alarm / Acknowledge).  
  • Energy Calculation - The Energy (NRG) Calc application allows the RTU to calculate power based on analog inputs for volts, amps, and power factor.  The resulting power calculations are then represented as accumulators points, which may then be mapped to a master station.
  • Load Calculation - The application begins counting pulses from a digital input point for each line which represents a  configurable number of kilowatt-hours.  The application projects the rate of input to a one-hour basis and computes an estimated instantaneous megawatt input rate.  
  • Virtual IED's (Primary / Secondary) - Allows two data sources to be mapped to a pseudo point such that if the primary loses communications, the secondary source is automatically substituted.
  • Relay Lockout - Monitors the number of status changes over a specified time period and if exceeded locks out the control for a time. Useful for keeping Cap Banks from performing excessive operations.
  • RTU Battery Test - Periodically test the health of the RTU backup battery and alarm the user when the battery needs maintenance or will fail.
  • Command Inhibit - Application allows the user to essentially create an individual Local/Remote function on a per relay or point basis.
  • Accumulator Rate Task - Monitors accumulator points and converts the rate of change accumulator counts into analogs.  If the rate of change of the accumulator is constant, for instance, the analog value will be some fixed number.
  • ACI / Feeder Management - This application allows the user to store and remotely retrieve (serially or ethernet) Event, Periodic, and Fast Survey records from the ACI subsystem in SAGE RTU's.  

Math and Logic Applications

Every SAGE RTU includes our powerful Math and Logic Applications. 
  • Calculations Processor allows for easy processing without the being overly complex. 
  • Boolean Status allows users to combine status points in logical AND, OR, NAND, NOR, XOR, etc, to aggregate alarms back to SCADA. 
  • Data Transfer lets you transform data types from one to another, allowing information to be available wherever you need it. 
If you need more complex Automation, our optional ISaGRAF based IEC 61131 interface allows users to be fully in control of their Automation Schemes.  Innovation is at your fingertips using any combination of Function Block Diagrams, Ladder Diagrams, to Structured Text to create applications that meet your needs. 

Alarming and Annunciation

Our Annunciator Panel and Alarming package is included, free of charge, in all of our RTU's.  This information can be viewed at any time, without logging into the RTU, from our config@WEB interface.  This makes the job of Substation Technicians  much easier when arriving on site to diagnose any problems.  

SEL Relay Integration

  • The SAGE RTU can automatically interrogate SEL Relays to bring in the full points list. 
  • With a few clicks, you can choose which points to Add to the Database and pass along to your SCADA Master.  
  • The SAGE RTU can also gather History, Sequence of Events, and full Event captures from all connected SEL Relays. 
  • You can push those events along to a central repository or manually download those files at your convenience.
  • The SAGE can also perform Configuration Management to ensure the Relay configuration running is the approved configuration.  If a change is detected, an alarm is raised to the SCADA Master. 
  • SAGE allows users to tunnel directly into their relays through the RTU with an interface much like the SEL 2032.
